When we have an experience beyond the body's ability to process it, the energy that would have moved through us can get "stuck". This is what we call "trauma". The word "emotion" literally means energy in motion. If we do not fully move the energy from the overwhelming experience then it remains until our body is ready. In fact, we will recreate and treat similar experiences to match that from the event with which we did not emotionally process because our body's are so intelligent that they seek to find opportunities to heal until it finally does.   Since our bodies are self sealing organisms, their intelligence leads us back to homeostasis, neutralization, regulation and clearance to make space to allow more of life's experiences to move through us.
